Ghana Boycotts London Africa Energies Summit Over ‘Discrimination’ Concerns

SNN – Ghana has announced it will not participate in the upcoming Africa Energies Summit scheduled to take place in London, citing concerns over discrimination and the exclusion of African professionals.

The decision was confirmed by the Energy Chamber Ghana, which said the boycott reflects growing frustration across the continent’s energy sector regarding lack of inclusion at international forums.

“Ghana is not a mere spectator in Africa’s energy story; until platforms guarantee transparency and inclusion, it is responsible to reconsider our participation,” said Joshua B. Narh, executive chairman of the chamber.

According to officials, the summit has faced criticism for sidelining African expertise in discussions about the continent’s energy future, despite Africa being central to the sector.

Ghana’s move follows similar actions by Mozambique and ministers from the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation, who have also withdrawn or boycotted the event.

The West African nation is currently expanding its oil production and investing in gas infrastructure, aiming to attract both local and regional investment. Authorities argue that African stakeholders must play a leading role in shaping policies that directly affect their resources and economies.

Industry representatives say international energy events should better reflect African participation, ensuring that decisions and strategies are not made without meaningful input from the continent.
