The Somali Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Somali, has taken part in the high-level African Startup Summit, which concluded today in Algiers.
The summit brought together top African leaders, policymakers, technology experts, and innovators to discuss the future of digital transformation across the continent. Key discussions focused on empowering emerging startups, expanding digital connectivity, strengthening innovation ecosystems, and building strong ICT infrastructure in Africa.
One of the major highlights of the summit was the Ministerial Roundtable, attended by communications and technology ministers from several African nations. The meeting focused on shaping Africa’s long-term digital roadmap and strengthening cooperation among countries in the technology sector.
During his address, Minister Mohamed Somali outlined Somalia’s digital vision and shared the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize its ICT sector. He emphasized four major priorities that are critical to Africa’s digital success:
Digital Connectivity: Expanding reliable internet access and closing the digital divide across African nations.
Cybersecurity: Strengthening protection systems to safeguard data, users, and digital institutions.
Policy Development: Establishing forward-looking ICT policies that support innovation and business growth.
Infrastructure: Building the technological backbone needed to support digital economies.
The minister’s participation reflects the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to integrating the country into the global digital economy while working closely with African partners to overcome shared technological challenges.
Somalia continues to position itself as a growing digital hub in the Horn of Africa through regional cooperation, startup development, and progressive ICT reforms.
