Mogadishu, 10 December 2025 — The Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, officially inaugurated Somalia’s commemoration of the International Human Rights Day, an annual global event observed on 10 December.
The ceremony, attended by government officials, civil society leaders, and representatives from the United Nations, highlighted the importance of promoting and safeguarding human rights across the country. Speakers emphasized Somalia’s responsibility in strengthening national human rights frameworks and aligning them with global standards.
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of all citizens. He stated that the Federal Government is prepared to enhance its efforts by improving national systems, strengthening institutions, and expanding human rights awareness.
As part of ongoing reforms, the Danqaran Administration recently established a National Human Rights Committee, tasked with coordinating reporting, monitoring, and oversight mechanisms. The initiative aims to ensure that Somalia meets international human rights obligations and builds a more transparent and accountable governance structure.
